Vectorize
Convert a raster image into a vector file made of resolution-independent paths and shapes.
Definition
Vectorize means to convert a raster image into a vector file built from mathematical paths and shapes. A vectorized file scales infinitely without quality loss because there are no pixels, only curves and fills. Vectorization is used to rebuild low-resolution customer artwork into a clean print-ready file. Automatic vector traces work well on simple logos with flat color. Complex photographic art, gradients, and soft edges require manual rebuilding by a designer. Long Island DTF Printing offers vector cleanup through the Vector Credit Pack when a customer submits a low-resolution or low-quality raster file that needs to be rebuilt for production.
Related Terms
Rasterize
Convert a vector file into a pixel-based raster image at a specified resolution.
Print-Ready File
An artwork file that meets all the technical specifications required to send directly to the production press.
Resolution
The pixel density of a raster image, typically measured in DPI at the intended physical print size.
Stroke Weight
The thickness of a line or outline in a design, measured in points or pixels.
